Stylish Blogger and a Giveaway

My super fantastic cousin Anne over at The Drankas gave me a Stylish Blogger Award a week or so ago and my lazy self has taken a while to ‘accept’. I was just saving it for something special. Just yesterday I reached 200 posts and so I figured that was probably about as special as it is gonna get around here.

As with any really awesome award, there are some responsibilities that go along with it. They are:

1. Thank and link back to the person who gave you this award.

Thanks, Anne! It is so fun to read about the going ons in your sweet family. Your life is so different than mine and so it is fun to see what other people consider to be ‘normal’. I am so excited for your little one on the way and can’t wait to meet her and read about your new adventures as a parent.

2. Share 7 things about yourself. (I decided to share 7 things about my blog, is that ok with you?)

  • I really am not much of a writer. (But you all probably have figured that out by now.) I’m just here because I enjoy it and every once in a while I feel like I just might have something that someone may find interesting.
  • My photos could stand to be improved. My amazing husband bought me a Nikon D3100 for Christmas. It came complete with classes so I could learn how to use it properly and everything. We were even looking into getting me some photo editing software. Awesome me broke it last week. Nice.
  • I don’t like when blogs are super duper cluttered up and I get super finicky about how mine looks. This is kinda bad because I don’t really know too much about techie stuff so it takes me a while to figure things out. I’m getting there though.
  • My blog changes themes a lot. First I just felt like I had something to say, then I thought it would help out my Etsy shop, then I wanted you to learn sewing with me (still working on that but currently discouraged because my iPad was recently lost/stolen with all my bookmarked links- this is not a good week for me in the electronic device area), and then I wanted to share my handmade gifts project with you. Now I am so happy to just be me and combine all of it.
  • I wish when you hovered on my page links that the color didn’t turn to red. (Remember? Finicky yes, techie no.)
  • I used to post once a day, once a week, once a month…. whatever I felt like. I actually went a whole year without making a post. Now I get bummed if I miss one day.
  • I really am enjoying blogging! I hope you are enjoying my blog as much as I am. Thanks for reading!

3. Award 15 recently discovered great bloggers.

Hmmm…. I think I’m gonna skip this one. If you look in my sidebar, I have taken time to link up a ton of awesome blogs. If you are reading this, and you blog, and you wish to be awarded as a “Stylish Blogger,” then consider yourself tagged. I know you’re stylish! Make sure you comment back here with the link so we can all find you (I’ll even count it as an extra giveaway entry).

Didn’t I say something about a giveaway? Oh yes! To celebrate my 200th post AND my stylish blogginess I am giving away this sweet little set of spring notecards.

Want to Win a Tutu?

Head on over to the HandmadeMN blog for a chance to win one of my tutus. I am so excited to be doing this giveaway and hopefully get some more exposure to my etsy shop.

100_0159

Since I am hoping to have a few more visitors over at etsy I spent some time over the weekend taking pictures of some of my new stuff and adding them into my shop. I even made a light box in hopes of a little better photography. I’m still working on some of the details, but they are already turning out better. I didn’t have a white piece of paper big enough, so in some of the pics you can see the seam but I bought a bigger piece yesterday so that won’t be a problem anymore.

You can see all my new stuff at www.lovealwaysxox.etsy.com .

Cheri’s Pickin’s – Jo Bead

Hello and welcome to this edition of Cheri’s Pickin’s where I, your wonderful host, introduce you to some fabulous sellers and their wonderful goodies! There are so many fabulous sellers on etsy and all over the web and I am going to help you find some of them. I have asked each seller to give me a little info on themselves and their shop and at the end you will find out how you can win a free item! So, without further delay…. here is this weeks pickin’!

Jo Bead

JoBead began in late 2007.  I attended a conference that featured Wellspring International.  I was so touched by what they were (and are!) doing that I began thinking about a way that I could help out the organization on an ongoing basis.  Rewind back to 2006 when my sister-in-law asked me to bead her wedding dress.  Over 3,000 Swarovski crystals later, she asked me to make wedding jewelry.  I hopped on the internet and taught myself the basics.  Wellspring and jewelry merged for me as a way to help fund them and also to help myself.  I am a well-trained bargain hunter (thanks, Mom!) that needs to be creative.  I don’t, however, “need” the money.  After traveling extensively around the world, I’ve seen those in true “need” – the very same people that Wellspring International is helping.  JoBead is a way for me to be creative, to give to those in need and for my clients to get a bargain!

What began with a simple request has now become a small business.  I have my own site,http://www.jobead.com, with a catalog of customizable jewelry.  The one of a kind or very limited edition pieces are listed on my Etsy site: http://www.jobead.etsy.com, with more pieces being listed daily.  I can be found in a few bridal shops in the Milwaukee area and do custom work out of my home office.   I am absolutely thrilled to be able to help Wellspring in this way.  100% of the proceeds for JoBead go directly to Wellspring and 100% of the donations they receive are used to directly fund projects.  To see more of the wonderful work they are doing, please see:http://www.wellspringinternational.org.

Julia’s Closet

I have been knitting for as long as I can remember myself….knitting from scraps and then unwinding the result (to explore what else could have been done with same yarn), knitting on a train, in front of a book, under the covers of my bed….

When I had my son I discovered that there are not too many quality knits for tots – actually none at all in acceptable price ranges that would please my esthetical sense as well as justify the price tag by quality…so I had to knit – first, cashmere blankets, then hats, then little sweaters with protection for neck out of softest materials I could find that would not irritate baby skin…that’s how I got back to it. My next discover was absense of complex patterns for kids knits and need to learn to imagine by myself….

I knit daily, I knit avidly and I pride myself on my perfectionism – from choosing the yarns of highest quality to paying attention to smallest details of execution…..

Now you can have a chance to win a mohair scarf.  Wohoo! Thanks Julia’s Closet:)

To enter:

  • go and look at Julia’s Closet

The Willows Nest

Hi people, my name is Helen Wheeler-Shaw, a New Zealander now living in the good ol’ US. After recently ‘discovering’ etsy, I have had a lot of fun getting my shop together called ‘The Willows Nest’. I am one of those crazy creative types who finds it ‘ hard to breathe’, if I haven’t been ‘throwing some paint around’ for a while!

I have been ‘arty’ all my life, am always’ into’ something new but always return to painting, my true love.  I am delighted to have many paintings in private collections in Australia,  America,  New Zealand , Saudi Arabia and South Africa.

I create in my lovely studio looking out at the wildlife in the hill country of Texas, very inspiring! I live there with my husband ( from South Africa,) our son Luke (born in Saudi Arabia) and  Zackary ( our very own little American) We are like a mini United nations! lol!

So even with the constant battle of keeping the 18 month old toddler from ‘loving’ all my animal paintings, I have managed to start filling up my little shop, here are a couple of examples!   ‘Saffron’ and ‘Sunset’, painted in watercolors and Indian Ink

and ‘Fuchsia and Friend’, also watercolor and Indian Ink.

Currently I am all inspired by the old Botanical prints, so popular in Victorian Times, these current works reflect this.

I have included a give away for your draw, it is a set of  6 yummy textured notecards with matching envelopes entitled ‘Nesting.’ There are 2 cards of each image – Prints of my original work ‘Falling Feather’ , ‘Little Blue’ and ‘Spring Nest.’ All 3 works were completed in charcoal, pastel and Indian Ink. Enjoy, congrats to the winner!

Lovely to pop in and say Hi’ to you all, come and say hi to me if you have time at:

http://www.thewillowsnest.etsy.com

Cheers , Helen

Now you can have a chance to win those notecards.  Wohoo! Thanks Helen:)

Cheri’s Pickin’s – Chicken Scratch

Hello and welcome to this edition of Cheri’s Pickin’s where I, your wonderful host, introduce you to some fabulous sellers and their wonderful goodies! There are so many fabulous sellers on etsy and all over the web and I am going to help you find some of them. I have asked each seller to give me a little info on themselves and their shop and at the end you will find out how you can win a free item! So, without further delay…. here is this weeks pickin’!

(If you are a seller on or off etsy please let me know if you would like to be featured in my blog!)

My name’s Beth Merriman & I’m the owner of Chicken Scratch.  I know it’s an odd name for a shop – a while back, a prospective customer asked me what the name of my shop was (which I hadn’t actually listed on etsy yet) and that was the first thing that came to mind.  My grandfather always called my sister and I “chickie” when we were little; and I needed to make some scratch (cash) quickly.  Plus, of course, my candles are made from scratch.  I listed my shop on Etsy the next day.

I’m 30-something, single, living in San Diego, CA with a cat and a roomie.  The roomie works days, and I work nights, so my craftiness doesn’t infringe (much) on her life.  She’s been a good promoter, handing out business cards and talking me up whenever she can.  I work in backstage theatre as a dresser – some of my best customers are the actors and crew, who are always looking for opening night presents or something to send home to their loved ones.

Massage candles burn like beeswax candles, but the melted wax can be used as massage oil.  They make great little gifts, and you can pop them into your suitcase and really spoil yourself on vacation.  And, of course, if your romantic partner needs a hint, you can leave one on their pillow and see what happens next! My candles are vegan, meaning no animal products are used.  The soy wax melts at a lower temperature than beeswax, so it won’t burn you, and the shea butter just melts into your skin.  I’m always trying out new scents, and I’m open to customer requests.

Congratulations Teresa for winning a massage candle from Chicken Scratch. Thanks again Beth!
