Our ‘Home’

Last week we celebrated the 2oth anniversary of our Pastor and his wife serving at Oakwood Church. Andrew and I feel so blessed to be a part of such an amazing ministry. We have been at Oakwood for five years now and love that we have a family and a home with the wonderful people and leadership at Oakwood.

Our family made a little video for them that we played during the service. It is on my husband’s facebook page so you may have to be his friend too see it, but I wanted to share it because it is kind of fun and I want you all to know how thankful we are! Click here to watch it.

I believe that it is so incredibly important for everyone to have a place where they can feel comfortable worshipping with other believers, be fed awesome Biblical truth, and serve God each in their own special way. If you don’t have that, find it!

Thank you so much Pastor and Lois for all you do for our church and our family! You have led us as parents, spouses, friends, pastors, leaders… the list goes on. I can see God at work in your life, your family and your ministry. Thank you for your Godly example and your commitment to Oakwood Church and our family there.

Beat the Heat

Here in MN it is a billion degrees out this week. I have put together a list of fun things to do inside to stay safe and cool during the hot spell- without having the kiddos drive you nutso. (Note: this list does NOT include Chuck E. Cheese!) Most of these places are for the St. Paul/ Southeast metro locals, but there are some things you can do at home too. Do you have any ideas to add?

Plaza Maplewood Theatre. Seeing movies is always fun, but the price tag isn’t. It is only $2 per ticket to go to the Plaza, and concessions are reasonable as well. We took the kids to see Rio today and they are also showing Hop and Judy Moody (along with some grown up flicks as well).

Science Bob. Axel is an absolute science nut and there are a ton of fun experiments on here. We made slime this morning and it has kept them entertained all day. All the experiments are submitted by parents and tested so you know they work! You can even search by age category to find something just right for your family.

Waffle Cookies. Who wants to turn the oven on when it is this hot out? Not me! This recipe is super easy to make and tastes yummy too. Instant cookie gratification (they bake in less than 90 secs). Make sure you read through the tips at the bottom of the page- just don’t pay attention to the bad reviews, because these are great! We think they would be good garnishing ice cream, or as ice cream sandwiches.

Woodbury Central Park. We like to pack a lunch order Jimmy Johns delivery and eat in the beautiful indoor park area that has trees, waterfalls and plants. Central Park connects the library (get some good books), YMCA (go swimming or play in the gym), and Lookout Ridge (indoor playground). They also play movies and have concerts in their indoor amphitheater.

Just Jump. What could be more awesome for burning off energy than a room full of inflatables? And it’s not just for the kids. Moms and dads are invited to jump, run, slide and race right along with the munchkins. It is located in Woodbury and prices range from $6-8 for open play. Check their website for times.

MN Children’s Museum. We are members so this one is a freebie for us. I definitely think it is worth the admission price though. There is also a McDonalds and Subway connected via the skyway so you can make a day of it and grab a cheap lunch too.

(She did her own face-painting...)

Popsicle Stick Bracelets. I’m all about easy cheap crafts to do with the kids. These look like so much fun and I can’t wait to try them out. I would love to see pictures if you do them.

I try and post a few fun links on my Facebook every day with fun activities (not just for the kids). Like me over there and I’ll keep the good ideas (crafts, recipes, activities, etc.) coming.

Stay cool and drink lots of water!
