The Camping Fiasco

Our family was really excited about camping this last weekend. Andrew and I giggled about it all week. I felt like a six year old counting down to Christmas morning. It turned out to be a very memorable weekend.

Friday:

9:00 am- The plan was to take Axel to swimming lessons, take myself to the dr. for a regular ob checkup and then head out. When we woke up it was raining which was a bummer but we were not going to let it get us down!

12:45 pm – Cheri slips and falls in wet garage on the way to the dr. Dr. decides we better do an ultrasound to check on everything. Leaving gets pushed back 3 1/2 hours. Thankfully all is fine.

6:30 pm  – We finally arrive at the campground. Still raining. Get set up and eat a really late supper. Off to bed.

1:00 am – It has been raining all night. Really storming. Loud thunder and bright lightning. Miracle asks mommy if we could please go home. The new tent from my dad keeps us nice and dry. (mostly)

3:00 am – The constant dripping on the tent is not doing so well for my pregnant bladder. I finally give in and trek to the bathroom. It is dark and wet but at least the rain has stopped.

Saturday

8:00 am – Another big storm rolls on in. We get in the car and go out for breakfast. There is only so much fun you can have in the rain with two small children.

12:30 pm – The rain has stopped and we decide to have some lunch. It suddenly is very sunny (and very humid). Eat lunch and get ready to go to the beach. Unfortunately momma bear (that’s me) is not feeling well at all. We go to the beach and swim and fish all afternoon. After a short nap on shore and a quick dip in the cool water I am feeling much better. Miracle did manage to step on the extremely hot metal of the dock and burn her little feet though. Poor baby.

5:00 pm – Get back to the campsite and eat campfire pies in another sudden outburst of rain.

6:30 pm – It is gorgous again. Enjoy tacos with our church family and then go down to the river for two baptisms. YEAH!

9:00 pm – Axel lays down to take a ‘nap’. He has an extremely bad headache.

9:01 pm – Tornado Sirens go off. The park rangers come by honking their horn and yelling through a mega phone. “Tornado Warning. Everyone to the bathroom.” Fun. We instead get in the car and drive five miles to a friends house where we wait out the storm.

11:00 pm – Storm is over. Everyone is safe. Praise the Lord. We climb into our tents and have an uneventful night.

Sunday

Ate breakfast, had church, packed up, and went home.

It is so amazing to me that with all that happened we still had an amazing time. The kids cried when it was time to go home and none of us has much of a negative feeling towards the weekend. I feel sad for Axel because he was so looking forward to camping and he didn’t get to experience it as much as he could have. It was still wonderful although next time I am praying for a little better weather!

My Future Astronaut

Of course after finishing Miracle’s room Axel was concerned about when I would get to his. We have been talking about making him a rocket ship room for months. He has decided that when he grows up he will be going into space. Mars and the moon are his first destinations. Don’t worry, he is taking his family with to the moon.

I was pretty nervous about how his would turn out. I had no plan. He just kept saying he wanted rocket ships all over everywhere. I think we accomplished our goal! When I first got started I had a few up and the kids were playing in the room with me. I had paused and was looking at the wall, unsure if I should continue or stop and make a new plan. I noticed it had gotten quiet and when I looked over at Axel he was just staring at me with the hugest grin on his face. “What?” I asked. “I just love it.” he smiled. That was all the encouragement I needed to keep going! I finished it while he was sleeping and when I showed him it this morning he just kept grinning, giggling, and hugging my belly. (There is a lot of belly to hug!)

There are a few more additions I have in store for his room. I want to add a rocket ship mobile that I saw at Patinas. Also, this clock from art by mags! and these door knobs from Knobs for the closet.

I’m not too sure how much I like this one. May be my color choices. Says “Just Because” on inside.

A Castle for the Princess

Remember grocery bag full of vinyl? I’m pretty sure I could have stuffed more in there but I still got a lot.

Notice the Lovely Shiny Pink!

And although I am still disappointed with the lack of girly colors I was very excited when I picked up a roll of brown and two sheets of pink fell out! I’m pretty sure I’ll have enough to do both my girls’ rooms now. Here is the stash after I organized it by color and seperated out what I was using for each of the bedrooms.

And then I spent the rest of the day planning and cutting for Miracle’s room. After I had it all cut I got a little nervous about how it was going to come together but I think it turned out amazing. Not to mention this was my first time doing anything like this!

Excuse all the pictures but I wanted you to get the full project. I was going to take pictures of the application process but everyone was asleep. Well, except Miracle who stayed up until midnight with me! The last picture is of her bedding which is what I designed the whole scene after.

Geared Up To Decorate

I have been wanting to get my kid’s rooms decorated for the past several months. I don’t want to paint because in the unfortunate event that we ever have to move out of this beautiful house I don’t want to have to paint everything back. Instead I decided to do vinyl decals. Being the crafty girl that I am I want to do it myself. I found the vinyl to be pretty pricy though! Usually between $2-4 for a 12×12 sheet.

A couple of weeks ago I stumbled across an add on craigslist. There is a business in Inver Grove Heights that does vehicle (and more) decals and they were offering up their scraps for cheap. $40 will get you a grocery bag stuffed with vinyl. The man estimated you could fit around $300 worth into the bag.

A friend and I went over there last night and picked through his stuff. It was fun to see all the different types of vinyl. Reflective, holographic, metallic….. even a kind that when placed on glass it makes it look like you etched the glass.

So we loaded up our paper bags and now I am ready to get started on the bedrooms, bathrooms, playrooms….. you get the idea. You can even use it for outside things (ex. cars). I was a little bummed at the lack of pinks in the selection but there were a few. There is one treasure I found right at the end that I just want to hold and kiss. It is all sparkly and pink. I’ll probably never use it because I’ll keep waiting to find it’s perfect spot.

I’ll keep you posted on my new decorating and if anyone wants this guys number let me know! You should give him some time to restock though because he has no girly colors left whatsoever!

Apparently I was in a punk mood the last couple of days because this one is a little on the rocker side too! (tri-fold card, inside is white)

My Girlfriend

Remember body pillows? They were a big thing, I don’t know, maybe 7 years ago. My mom got me one for Christmas around then and as cool as it was I didn’t really understand it’s usefulness. I made a really pretty cover for it using a hot pink floral fleece remnant I had. (That was when fleece tie blankets were big too.) It sat on my bed and moved where I moved. Not getting too much use.

Then a couple of years later I got pregnant. Ever since, my husband and I have affectionately referred to my body pillow as my girlfriend. She sleeps with us and I love to spoon her. I got her out over the weekend and she is just as wonderful as my pregnant belly and I remember.

I highly recommend a body pillow to any pregnant woman!

Happy Sunday

I actually made two cards yesterday. This first one was for my bestie who is getting married! She had her shower yesterday and I made it in her wedding colors. (orange, purple, and green) The gift box was green so you see I was oh so on top of things! haha.

Daddy’s Home!

We spent the whole afternoon at Battle Creek Waterpark yesterday. It was so nice. My mom came up with my brother and met me, the kids and my sisters over there. I wasn’t sure what to expect because of the bad reputation surrounding the neighborhood but I was really impressed! It was a little spendy to get in ($6.50) but it was worth it. The pool was nice, the lifeguards were attentive and there is even a sand playground. The kids had a blast!

When we came home I made supper for the kids and I, gave them baths, and Miracle crashed. She was so tired that she let me change her diaper and brush her hair without even waking up. Axel worked really hard on this welcome home picture for daddy. It is so sweet it brought tears to my eyes.

Daddy is now home snuggled safely in bed. When Miracle woke during the night he went in and got her and she just squeezed him for ten minutes. Axel climbed in bed with us this morning with a super grin and we all had a nice long ‘huggle’. Praise the Lord for everyone’s safe return!

Card of the Day:

Even after spending 6 hours at the pool I still made something to show you! Some more cards that needed envelopes.
